Happy Birthday to former New York-Penn League prospect Tony DeFrancesco, who was born on this date in 1963.
He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 9th round of the 1984 Major League Amateur Draft and was assigned to the Elmira Pioneers (56 games, 2 HR, 24 RBI, .299/.386.381).
DeFrancesco played nine years in the minor leagues and after retiring as a player, began a long career as a minor league manager (1994-2007, 2009-present). He managed the Houston Astros for 41 games in 2012 (16-25).
He is currently manager for the Syracuse Mets in the AAA International League.
