Today's New York-Penn League Birthday: Hector Maestri (Elmira Pioneers, 1957-58)

Former New York-Penn League prospect Hector Maestri was born on this date in 1935, in Havana, Cuba.

He was signed by the Washington Senators and pitched in the New York-Penn League for the Elmira Pioneers during the 1957 (9-12, 3.42 ERA) and 1958 (16-11, 3.52 ERA) seasons.

Maestri pitched in one game for the 1960 Washington Senators. After the Senators relocated to Minnesota and became the Twins, he was drafted by the new Washington Senators in the expansion draft on December 14, 1960. Maestri appeared in one game for the Washington Senators in 1961.

He died on February 21, 2014, in Miami, Florida at the age of 75.
