He played in the majors during 5 seasons with the Boston Red Sox (1960), Los Angeles Angels (1961-63), and Atlanta Braves (1966). Prior to managing at Jametown, he managed the West Palm Beach Expos in the Florida State League in 1968 and the Gulf Coast League Expos in 1969.

His brothers Bob and Ted and nephew Jim Sadowski all played in majors.

Sadowski died on November 6, 1993, at the age of 63.

After he retired as a player, he managed in the minors (1967-70), and was a coached and managed in the majors from 1971 to 2003 (see complete list at this link). He was a senior advisor with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays/Rays from 2004 to 2014.

Zimmer died on June 4, 2014, at the age of 83.
