He died on September 9, 1998, at the age of 63.

Former New York-Penn League prospect Ed Phillips was born on this date in 1944. He played for the Oneonta Red Sox in 1966 (4-4, 2.80 ERA). 

Phillips went on to pitch in 18 games for the 1970 Boston Red Sox. He was inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979 and the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.

He died on his birthday, September 20, 2017, at the age of 73 .

Happy Birthday to former New York-Penn League prospect and Hall of Famer Robin Yount. He played for the Newark (NY) Co-Pilots as a 17 year old rookie in 1973.

Yount played for 20 seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers (1974-93), finishing his career with 3,142 hits. During his career, he was a two time American League MVP and was named Major League player of the year in 1982. He was on the American League All-Star team in 1980, '82 and '83. During his career he was awarded one Gold Glove (1982), three Silver Sluggers (1980, '82, '89) and played in one World Series (1982). 

Yount was selected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999 and the New York-Penn League Hall of Fame in 2012.

Former PONY (New York-Penn) League prospect Jerry Coleman was born on this date in 1924.He played for the 1942 Wellsville Yankees prior to entering the military during World War II (1943-45). 

He continued his minor league career in 1946 and went on to play for the New York Yankees for 9 seasons (1949-57). He played in the 1950 All-Star game and played in 6 World Series for the Yankees (1949, '50, '51, '55, '56 & '57).

After he retired as a player, he was a broadcaster for several years and was manager of the San Diego Padres in 1980. Coleman died on January 5, 2014 at the age of 89.

Former PONY/New York-Penn League prospect and manager Andy Seminick was born on this date in 1920 in Pierce, West Virginia. 

Seminick played in the PONY (Pennsylvania-Ontario-New York) in 1940 with the London Pirates. He went on to play 15 seasons in the majors with the Philadelphia Phillies (1943-51, '55-'57) and Cincinnati Reds (1952-55). Seminick played in the 1949 All-Star game and the 1950 World Series.

After his playing days, Seminick managed for 11 seasons in the minor leagues, including one season in the the New York-Penn League with the Elmira Pioneers (1959).

He died on February 22, 2004 at the age of 83.

In 2002, Burks was inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame.

After five seasons in the minors, Harrelson made his major league debut with Kansas City Athletics in 1963. He played nine seasons in the majors with Kansas City (1963-66, '67), Washington Senators (1966-67), Boston Red Sox (1967-69), and Cleveland Indians (1969-71).

Following his retirement, he played professional golf, briefly served as the Chicago White Sox general manager (1985-86) and was a longtime major league broadcaster with the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox.
