He was signed by the Minnesota Twins in 1962 and pitched for the Erie Sailors during that season. He appeared in 22 games for Erie (116 IP, 6-4, 3.96 ERA, 132 SO, 70 BB, 1.448 WHIP).
Jones spent 10 seasons in the minor leagues and pitched in the major leagues during three seasons with the Chicago White Sox (1967), Washington Senators (1968), and Kansas City Royals (1969).
He is the brother of former major league pitcher Gary Jones.
