Alex Monchak, former PONY/New York-Penn League player/manager of the Wellsville Braves (1955-57) was born on this date in 1917.

He played in 19 games for the 1940 Philadelphia Phillies. After his playing career, Monchak was a scout and minor league instructor for the California Angels (1962-70), and a coach for the Chicago White Sox (1971-75), Oakland Athletics (1976), Pittsburgh Pirates (1977-84), and Atlanta Braves (1986-88).

Monchak died on September 12, 2015, at the age of 98.
