Bergman was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the fourth round of the 1991 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Southern Illinois University. He was assigned to the Niagara Falls Rapids and pitched in 15 games (all starts) during the 1991 season (5-7, 4.46 ERA, 1.524 WHIP).
He progressed thru the Detroit minor league system and pitched in nine major league games for the 1993 Tigers. He was with the Tigers in 1994 and '95. On March 22, 1996, he was traded to the San Diego Padres. He pitched for the Padres for two seasons and was traded to Houston Astros on January 14, 1998. After two seasons with Astros, he was released on August 31, 1999 and appeared in six games for the Atlanta Braves after being signed as a free agent on September 6. He was selected by the Minnesota Twins off of waivers on October 12, 1999. After pitching in 15 games for the Twins, he was released on June 22, 2000.
Bergman pitched in the minor leagues during the 2001 (Colorado Rockies), 2003 (Florida Marlins), and 2004 (Baltimore Orioles), and never made it back to the major leagues.
