Jackie Robinson Ballpark, home of the Florida State League Daytona Tortugas

Yesterday, Major League Baseball celebrated "Jackie Robinson Day" on the anniversary of his first regular season game with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.

During our spring training trip this year, we stopped in Daytona Beach so my wife could attend a quilters convention. I had an entire afternoon to walk over to Jackie Robinson Ballpark, home of the Daytona Tortugas of the Class A Florida State League. Opened on June 4, 1914, it is the fourth oldest ballpark still in use in professional baseball. The ballpark was renamed after Jackie Robinson in 1989.

It is a recommended stop, if you are ever in the Daytona Beach area. The Tortugas play a 135 game season. Ticket information is at this link.

Here are photos from my trip to Jackie Robinson Stadium back in February. Enjoy....

He was traded to the Milwaukee Braves on August 8, 1964 and returned to the Mets on March 28, 1965. After being traded to the Chicago White Sox on July 8, 1965, he was released on October 19, 1965 and retired from baseball.

During his 12 year major league career (128-116, 3.49 ERA), Lary was known as the "Yankee Killer" based on his ability to beat the New York Yankees on a regular basis. He had two 20-win seasons during his career (1956, 1961) and was named to two American League All Star teams (1960, 1961).

Frank Lary died on December 14, 2017 in Northport, Alabama.

Updated All-time West Virginia Black Bears Roster (as of April 7, 2019)

Here is an updated roster of West Virginia Black Bears (2015-present) based on roster assignments at the beginning of the Minor League season. Check back for regular updates throughout the season.

According my count, there have been 162 played assigned to the Black Bears (including rehab assignments) since they relocated from Jamestown, New York in 2015. The only player unaccounted for is Matt Anderson. He was activated by the West Virginia Power on September 15, 2017 from the 7-day disabled list and hasn't been seen since.

Let me know if you see any errors or omissions.
