Former PONY League prospect Dick Allen was born on this date in 1942. He played for the Elmira Pioneers in 1960.

Allen played 15 seasons in the major leagues and had 351 career home runs. He was the 1964 National League Rookie of the Year and the American League Most Valuable Player in 1972, He was inducted into the New York-Penn League Hall of Fame in 2016.

Allen died on December 7, 2020, at the age of 78.
