New York-Penn League Birthdays - March 8

Here is a list of former New York-Penn League prospects who were born on March 8. Click on the names to link to more information at Baseball Reference.

Jim Bouton (Auburn Yankees, 1959). Born in 1939. He pitched for 10 seasons in the major leagues (1962-70, '78) and was a best selling author (Ball Four).

Dick Allen (Elmira Pioneers, 1960). Born in 1942. Allen played 15 seasons in the major leagues and had 351 career home runs. He was inducted into the New York-Penn League Hall of Fame in 2016.

George Gerberman (Wellsville Braves, 1961). Born in 1942. Gerberman pitched in one major league game for the Chicago Cubs in 1962.

Jim Rice (Williamsport Red Sox, 1971). Born in 1953). Rice hit 382 career home runs during a 16 major league seasons and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009. He was inducted into the New York-Penn League Hall of Fame in 2012.

Mickey Pina (Elmira Pioneers, 1987). Born in 1966. He played five seasons in the minor leagues.

Vladimir Perez (Little Falls Mets, 1988). Born in 1969. Perez pitched during 8 minor league seasons.

Jesus Pena (Erie Sea Wolves, 1995) Born in 1975. He pitched during two major league seasons for the Chicago White Sox (1999-2000) and Boston Red Sox (2000).

Ryan Freel (St. Catharines Blue Jays, 1995). Born in 1976. He played 8 seasons in the majors with the Toronto Blue Jay (2001), Cincinnati Reds (2003-08), Baltimore Orioles (2009), Chicago Cubs (2009), Kansas City Royals (2009).

Craig Stansberry (Williamsport Crosscutters, 2003). Born in 1982. He played for the San Diego Padres during three seasons (2007-09).

James Mayer (Hudson Valley Renegades, 2006-07). Born in 1984. Mayer played three seasons in the minor leagues.

Tommy Pham (Batavia Muckdogs, 2007). Born in 1988. Pham is beginning his sixth season in the majors. He has played for the St. Louis Cardinals (2014-18) and the Tampa Bay Rays (2018-present).

Nick Merullo (Aberdeen IronBirds, 2014). Born in 1992.
