New York Penn League Birthdays - March 13

Here is a list of former New York-Penn League prospects and one umpire who were born on March 13. Click on the names to link to more information at Baseball Reference.

Al Luplow (Batavia Indians, 1959). Born in 1939 (died on December 28, 2017). Luplow played in the majors for seven seasons with the major with the Cleveland Indians (1961-65), New York Mets (1966-67), and Pittsburgh Pirates (1967).

Pete Calieri (New York-Penn League umpire, 1974-75) Born in 1948 (died on December 20, 2014). He also umpired in the Carolina, Eastern, and International Leagues. Celleri played an umpire in the movie The Natural.

Luis Aguayo (Auburn Phillies, 1976). Born in 1959. He played in the majors during 10 seasons (1980-89).

Tom Funk (Auburn Astros, 1983). Born in 1962. Funk pitched in eight games for the 1986 Houston Astros.

Craig Holman (Batavia Clippers, 1991). Born in 1969. He played eight years in the minor leagues.

Andy Sallee (Batavia Clippers, 1992). Born in 1969. He played three years in the minor leagues. He was later a scout for the New York Mets in Europe.

Johan Santana (Auburn Doubledays, 1997) Born in 1979. He pitched for 12 seasons in the majors and was a four-time All Star and two-time Cy Young Award winner (2004 & 2006)

Sandy Leon (Vermont Lake Monsters, 2009 & Auburn Doubledays 2012-13). Born 1989. Leon has played seven seasons in the majors and is currently with the World Champion Boston Red Sox.

Jesus Pirela (Williamsport Crosscutters, 2010-11). Born in 1989. Currently playing in Mexico.

Bubby Williams (Tri-City ValleyCats, 2011). Born in 1989. He played three seasons in the minors.

Stetson Allie (State College Spikes, 2011). Born in 1991. He has played eight seasons in the minors and is currently in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization.

Garrett Whitley (Hudson Valley Renegades, 2015). Born in 1997. He is entering his fourth season in the Tampa Bay Rays organization.
