Former PONY (New York-Penn) League prospect Ted Beard was born on this date in 1921. He played for the 1942 Hornell Maples. 

Beard played 7 seasons in the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1948-52) and Chicago White Sox (1957-58). After his playing days, he managed in the minors for two seasons (Indianapolis Indians, 1960 & Columbia Reds, 1961) and coached in the Midwest League (Appleton Foxes, 1972).

He died on December 30, 2011, at the age of 90.
