Former New York-Penn League prospect Dock Ellis was born on this date in 1945. He pitched for the 1964 Batavia Pirates (6-7, 3.20 ERA). 

Ellis played for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1968-75, '79), New York Yankees (1976-77), Oakland Athletics (1977), Texas Rangers (1977-79), New York Mets (1979). He was a National League All-Star for the 1971 World Champion Pirates.

He died on December 19, 2008, at the age of 63.
