Former PONY (New York-Penn) League prospect Ralph Branca was born on this date in 1926. He pitched for the Olean Oilers in 1943 (5-5, 4.63 ERA).

Branca pitched in the majors for 12 seasons with the Brooklyn Dodgers (1944-53, '56), Detroit Tigers (1953-54), New York Yankees (1954). He was a three-time National League All Star ('47, '48, '49).

He died on November 23, 2016, at the age of 90.
