On this Date in PONY (New York-Penn) League History: January 18, 1940

The Pittsburgh Pirates are considering moving their minor league team located in Jamestown, New York. They want Jamestown to build a new stadium.

The Pirates relocated to London, Ontario and the 1940 season began with no team in Jamestown. The city began construction of a new ballpark and in July the Niagara Falls Rainbows relocated to Jamestown and were renamed the Jamestown Falcons. Minor League baseball would field a team in the city (except for 1958-60) until the Jamestown Jammers relocated to Morgantown, West Virginia in 2015.
