Owens played in the majors during 12 seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies (1955-56, '58-'62), Cincinnati Reds (1963), and Houston Colt 45's/Astros (1964-67). After he retired as a player, Owens was the pitching coach for the Houston Astros (1967-72).
He died on September 8, 2020, at the age of 86.
