Former PONY (New York-Penn) League prospect Tom McAvoy was born on this date in 1936. He pitched for the 1956 Erie Senators (8-16, 4.88 ERA).

He pitched in one game for the Washington Senators in 1959. 

After his baseball career, McAvoy worked in sales and coached softball. He was inducted into the International Softball Congress Hall of Fame in 2009. 

He died on March 19, 2011 at the age of 74.
