Happy Birthday to former New York-Penn League prospect and manager Wally Backman, who was born on this date in 1959. He played for the 1977 Little Falls Mets and managed the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2010.

Backman played in the majors for 14 seasons with the New York Mets (1980-89), Minnesota Twins (1989), Pittsburgh Pirates (1990), Philadelphia Phillies (1991-92), and Seattle Mariners (1993).

After his playing days, he has managed several seasons for independent league and minor league teams. He managed the independent league Long Island Ducks in 2021.
