He played for the 1942
Wellsville Yankees prior to entering the military during World War II (1943-45). He continued his minor league career in 1946 and went on to play for the New York Yankees for 9 seasons (1949-57). He played in the 1950 All-Star game and played in 6 World Series for the Yankees (1949, '50, '51, '55, '56 & '57).
After he retired as a player, he was a broadcaster for several years and was manager of the San Diego Padres in 1980. Coleman died on January 5, 2014 at the age of 89.
