He played 18 years in the majors with the Chicago Cubs ((1949, '51), Philadephia Phillies (1952-55), Cincinnati Reds (1955-58), Pittsburgh Pirates (1959-64) and Chicago White Sox (1964-67). He was a 6 time National League All-Star and batted .333 in the 1960 World Series for the World Champion Pirates.
Burgess died on September 15, 1991, at the age of 64.
