Today's Birthday: Dick McAuliffe, Erie Sailors (1957)

Former New York-Penn League prospect Dick McAuliffe was born on this date in 1939. He was signed by the Detroit Tigers in 1957, and played in 60 games for the Erie Sailors as a 17 year old rookie.

He went on to play 16 seasons in the majors for the Detroit Tigers (1960-73) and Boston Red Sox (1974-75). He was a three time American League All-Star and played in all seven World Series games for the World Champion Detroit Tigers in 1968.

McAuliffe died on May 13, 2016 in Farmington, Connecticut at the age of 76.
