Former New York-Penn League prospect Tom Butters was born on this date in 1938. He played for the Jamestown Falcons in 1957.

Butters played in the majors during four seasons with Pittsburgh Pirates (1962-65).

After he retired as a player he was the head baseball coach at Duke University (1968-70). He became Duke's athletic director in 1977 and served that capacity until 1998.

Butters died on March 31, 2016, at the age of 77.
