Former PONY (New York-Penn) League prospect Charlie Silvera was born on this date in 1924. He played for the Wellsville Yankees in 1942.

He played in the majors for 10 seasons with the New York Yankees (1948-56) and Chicago Cubs (1957).

After his playing days, he managed in the minors and coached for the Minnesota Twins (1969), Detroit Tigers (1971-73), and Texas Rangers (1973-75).

He died on September 7, 2019, at the age of 94.
