Former New York-Penn League prospect Tug McGraw was born on this date in 1944. He pitched in 3 games for the 1964 Auburn Mets (1-2, 1.89 ERA). 

McGraw pitched for 19 seasons in the majors with the New York Mets (1965-67, 1969-74) and Philadelphia Phillies (1975-84). 

He was named to the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 1993, and the Philadelphia Baseball Wall of Fame in 1999.

He died of brain cancer on January 5, 2004, at the age of 59.
