Former New York-Penn League prospect Fred Wenz was born on this date in 1941. He pitched in five games for the 1961 Olean Red Sox.

Wenz played in the major leagues during three seasons with the Boston Red Sox (1968-69) and Philadelphia Phillies (1970).

After his playing days, he became a successful businessman. Wenz died on October 6, 2020, at the age of 79.
