Today in New York-Penn League History: December 8, 1996

The Erie SeaWolves will be leaving the New York-Penn League after being named by the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues as an expansion team in the Double A Eastern League.

(Note: Erie did not move to the Eastern League until the 1999 season. Springfield never returned to the Eastern League)
