Former PONY (New York-Penn) League prospect Mike Krsnich was born on this date in 1931 in West Allis, Wisconsin. He played for the 1950 Bradford Phillies.

Krsnich played for the Milwaukee Braves during two seasons (1960, '62), appearing in a total of 11 major league games. He finished his baseball career playing in Japan (1964-66, '67).

He died on April 30, 2011, at the age of 79.

Happy 78th Birthday to former New York-Penn League prospect Jim Rooker.

Rooker played in the New York-Penn League for the 1962 Jamestown Tigers. He played in the majors during 13 seasons with the Detroit Tigers (1968), Kansas City Royals (1969-72), and Pittsburgh Pirates (1973-80). He pitched in two games during the 1979 World Series.

After his playing days, he was a broadcaster for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1981 to 1993.

Former PONY (New York-Penn) League prospect Jerry Zimmerman was born on this date in 1934. He played for the 1954 Corning Red Sox (113 games, 7 HR, .302 BA).

He played in the majors during 8 seasons for the Cincinnati Reds (1961) and Minnesota Twins (1962-68). He was one of the original coaches for the Montreal Expos (1969-75) and coached for the Minnesota Twins from 1976 to 1980.

Zimmerman died on September 9, 1998, at the age of 63.

Today's Birthday: Andy Seminick (London Pirates, 1940; Elmira Pioneers Manager, 1959)

Former PONY/New York-Penn League prospect and manager Andy Seminick was born on this date in 1920 in Pierce, West Virginia.

Seminick played in the PONY (Pennsylvania-Ontario-New York) in 1940 with the London Pirates. He went on to play 15 seasons in the majors with the Philadelphia Phillies (1943-51, '55-'57) and Cincinnati Reds (1952-55). Seminick played in the 1949 All-Star game and the 1950 World Series.

After his playing days, Seminick managed for 11 seasons in the minor leagues, including one season in the the New York-Penn League with the Elmira Pioneers (1959).

Aase played in the major for 13 seasons with the Boston Red Sox (1977), California Angels (1978-82, ’84), Baltimore Orioles (1985-88), New York Mets (1989) and Los Angeles Dodgers (1990).

He appeared in the 1986 All-Star game for the American League.

He played in the Boston Braves in 1945.

Shupe died on April 5, 1962 at the age of 40.

Happy 79th Birthday to former New York-Penn League prospect (Olean A's) Ken Harrelson, who was born on this date in 1941.

He was signed out of high school by the Kansas City Athletics in 1959 and assigned to the Olean A's (.192/.236/.308).

After five seasons in the minors, Harrelson made his major league debut with Kansas City Athletics in 1963. He played nine seasons in the majors with Kansas City (1963-66, '67), Washington Senators (1966-67), Boston Red Sox (1967-69), and Cleveland Indians (1969-71).

Following his retirement, he played professional golf, briefly served as the Chicago White Sox general manager (1985-86) and was a longtime major league broadcaster with the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox.

Happy 93rd birthday to former New York-Penn League manager Cloyd Boyer. He managed the 1986 St Catharines Blue Jays (48-28) to a NYPL Championship.

Boyer pitched in the majors during 5 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals (1949-52, '55) and finished his career with a record of 20-23 and an ERA of 4.73.  

He is the older brother of former major leaguers Ken and Clete Boyer and minor leaguers Wayne, Lynn, Len, and Ron.
