Former NYPL Prospect Peter Alonso wins Home Run Derby

Former New York-Penn League prospect Peter Alonso won the 2019 Home Run Derby last night defeating Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the final round. Alonzo won $1 million, nearly double his 2019 salary.

Alonso was drafted by the New York Mets out of the University of Florida in the second round of the 2016 MLB June Draft and was assigned to the Brooklyn Cyclones. He batted .321/.382/.587 with 5 home runs and 21 RBI for the Cyclones.

Currently in his rookie season with the Mets, Alonso has 30 home runs and a 1.006 OPS in 89 games.
