Doll managed the 1947 Hornell Maples to a record of 40-84. (Hornell, New York had a team in the PONY/NYPL from 1942 to 1957)
Prior to managing in the minor leagues (1946-50), he played six seasons in the minor leagues. Doll pitched during two seasons in the major leagues with the Brooklyn Dodgers (one game in 1936 and three games in 1938).
Following his baseball career, he lived and worked in Calumet City, Illinois, where he died on April 28, 1978, at the age of 64.
