Today's New York-Penn League Birthday #2: Al Yates

Former New York-Penn League prospect Al Yates was born on this date in 1945, in Jersey City, New Jersey.

He was signed by the New York Mets in 1964 as an amateur free agent out of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. He played in the New York-Penn League for the Auburn Mets during two seasons (1964-65).

After playing in the minor leagues for eight seasons, he appeared in 24 games for the 1971 Milwaukee Brewers.

Yates died on November 23, 2007, in Miami, Florida at the age of 62.
