Today's Birthday: Ted Uhlaender (Erie Sailors, 1962)

Former New York-Penn League prospect Ted Uhlaender was born on this date in 1939. He played in 106 games for the 1962 Erie Sailors (.342 batting average, 8 home runs, 85 RBI).

He played 8 seasons in the majors with the Minnesota Twins (1965-69), Cleveland Indians (1970-71), and Cincinnati Reds (1972). After he retired as a player, Uhlaender managed in the minors in 1976. He worked for the New York Yankees from 1986 to 1996 as a minor league coach and scout, and later worked for the Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants and Cleveland Indians.

Uhlaender died on February 9, 2009, at the age of 69.
