He played 8 seasons in the majors with the Minnesota Twins (1965-69), Cleveland Indians (1970-71), and Cincinnati Reds (1972). After he retired as a player, Uhlaender managed in the minors in 1976. He worked for the New York Yankees from 1986 to 1996 as a minor league coach and scout, and later worked for the Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants and Cleveland Indians.
Uhlaender died on February 9, 2009, at the age of 69.
