Former Pennsylvania-Ontario-New York (PONY) League prospect Carl Sawatski was born on this date in 1927. He played for the Bradford Blue Wings in 1945.
He
played for 11 seasons in the majors with the Chicago Cubs (1948, ’50,
'53), Chicago White Sox (1954), Milwaukee Braves (1957-58), Philadelphia
Phillies (1958-59), and St. Louis Cardinals (1960-63).
After
his playing career Sawatski was general manager of the minor league
Arkansas Travelers and then president of the Southern League from 1976
to 1991.
Sawatski died on November 24, 1991, at the age of 64.
